Japan's National Institute of Materials Science (NIMS) and Sharp Corporation officially announced on February 23 that they have successfully developed the most perfect LED solution for 8K ultra-high-definition screens so far. This design effectively improves the reproduction of red, green and blue "three primary colors" of the screen by adjusting the coloring efficiency of the green phosphor, and has reached the 8K broadcast-level color gamut requirements, and the color capability is not inferior to LCD solutions of the same level .



According to reports, this new screen uses the "Alon green fluorescent material" jointly developed by NIMS and Sharp, which can achieve pure green coloring, so that the screen color can cover 90% of BT. 2020 standard color gamut.

The researchers said that the current common way to improve the color gamut of large screens is to use cadmium quantum dot technology, but from the perspective of environmental protection, this technology is not desirable. NIMS and Sharp's new LED solution can achieve color gamut improvement only by replacing the white 62.5mm Foldable LED Mesh Curtain components in the backlight, avoiding the cost and safety hazards caused by the use of harmful elements.



At present, Japan has decided to gradually popularize 8K-level broadcasting in 2018, and make 8K ultra-high-definition mainstream during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
